POW bear hunting success....
« on: May 13, 2012, 07:36:24 PM »
Ribka and I returned for POW Island today from our bear hunt. I was success full in filling my tag with a sow. Have not measured the hide yet but we figured it is about 5 to 5 and half feet, but the skull measures out at 17 13/16  :IBCOOL:

The weather was crap all week with only a few breaks in wind and rain. We went fishing one day last week and only caught a few rock fish. We had to get the hell off the water for the winds were picking up and we had to cross  the passageway with 5' waves in an 18' skiff  :yike: It was a white knuckle trip that was slow going, that's for sure.

The trip had its good and bad moments but over all was a blast and wish we did this sooner.

Here's some pic I took.

Pic from the plane.

Our cabin and mode of transportation.

Some other pic I took.

A bear that run up a tree.

Ok, now my bear  :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Ribka skinning the hide.

One of the eagles that was eating the scraps we through to them.

Hopefully Ribka will post more pic. he took

Looks like a great time. I hope I can do something like that someday soon.

Well as of Fall, you have to be drawn for a non resident bear tag and for what we heard the numbers are going to about 10% for non res.  :bash:

Great Job guys!  My buddy has a place in Klowack, I love going up there!  Did you see many bears?

No not as many as we expected. We did see bears every day but not in any big numbers.
The weather was rainy and windy the whole time we were there and made it tuff to be out in the elements, we were constantly soaked and lived in our waders and rain gear for the last week.
There were a group of 4 hunters before us that only taged one bear and another group of 6 that are still there but have yet to fill any of there tags. They were leaving late and coming in early because they were tired of being wet.

Unfortunately Ribka did not fill his tag, but he did pass up a few bears. Most the bears we were seeing were of the smaller size  :dunno:

And I am sad to say, but the wife wants a life size mount  :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL:
