Smith_22's 2012 trail cam season
« on: May 14, 2012, 08:42:33 AM »
I check my cams every two weeks or so and thought it would be fun to keep a running thread of the bucks I see this year, got my first growth on cam this last check, so we will start here.  The does are still carrying their fawns from what I can see, nice to start to get the velvet showing back up!  Good luck to all this year with their trail cam endeavors.

If you dont do it this year, you'll be one year older when you do!

Went and checked the cams again today, got some great pics, still no fawns on cam, a couple new bucks.  Beware the ferns!  On one of my set-ups they doubled in size and I ended up with 500+ pics of nothing.  Just a quick note about my set up, I'm running two bushnell trophy cams on 140 acres of private property, last year I got several big bucks on cam, hoping to capture some more this year, and really hoping to put a bullet through one.

Nice pictures. I just put out two cams yesterday, hoping for some newborn fawn pictures. Bucks would be nice too, of course. I think I'll go and put out one more today.

I have some of those cameras in the woods also along with other kinds. I have had them in the woods for a long time. I just started using the video part of the camera and have learned more because of it. When I was thinking that I had pictures with nothing around, an animal would walk into view after a few seconds. Then I realized that I was missing a lot of animals. It has become even more enjoyable since I started doing this. You might give it a try.

I did not use the video part for a long time because I figured that it would drain my batteries. I am getting literally hundreds of videos on a set of batteries now.

As far as I know, all these bucks made it through the season.

The fist fawn I've seen this year was today on the Wynoochee, last Sunday I was out in the woods all day and seen plenty of fat does so the fawns are droping.

I saw my first fawn of the year today too. I was in the Minot Peak unit checking two trail cams, ended up pulling one and moving the other. After I found a good location, and spent quite a bit of time getting it set up the way I wanted it, I was walking back through the clearcut and had gone less than 100 yards when a fawn jumps up 10 feet in front of me and runs off. Couldn't have been more than 2 weeks old. I was surprised at how fast it could run, and also really surprised that it even had the instinct at that young age to run off like it did. It never even slowed down enough for me to get my camera out and get a picture.

Had an SD card go bad on me on this last set, none of my cameras will open it up, really sucks.  So I can only imagine there are several nice velvet bucks on that card :)  Did finally get my first fawns of the year, and twins to boot.  Hope they both make it.

Been nothing but Does and fawns for the last few weeks, moved some cameras around, hope to find the trails the bucks are using!
