Kuiu clothing
« on: July 30, 2012, 12:41:47 AM »
So I broke down and bought some things from Kuiu after reading all the good reviews. Ended up with the crew neck merino 185 shirt and pants, guide vest, merino watch cap and neck gaiter. Got lucky and was able to get the crew neck top without pre ordering it. They have a bunch of stuff on sale right now which really helped.

The quality is impressive in my opinion. The wool isn't itchy at all to me as it is such a fine knit. The vest is surprisingly warm considering how lightweight it is. Ive been using a Filson vest for years and am blown away at how light the guide vest is. I also really like the flat seams on all of the items. All of the items seem to have an "athletic" fit to them which I like.

While I was leery about dropping the money it turned out to be well spent so far and can't wait to get it out bear hunting next week. Hopefully it will hold up which is my only concern due to how lightweight it all is.

Then to complete the madness i ended up ordering a pair of Hanwag Mountain light GTX boots. The wife shouldn't have left a credit card when she went away for the weekend I guess.

Anybody been using the Kuiu stuff who can give some opinions on longevity?

I've been wearing my Attack pants a couple times a week for 2 months on training hikes, and so far they are great.

I have quite a bit of the KUIU gear and love it. Most comfortable pants I have ever worn and love the Merino items too. I had quite a bit of Sitka Gear also for a few years and basically have sold most of that. I have used mine quite a bit and only issue I have are some snags in my attack pants from the blackberries. Not bad and I think most gear would snag on those thorns. One item I really like from KUIU is the Spindrift Jacket. Packs into its own pocket and is very lightweight. I typically will hike in quite a ways early mornings and keep the spindrift in my pack until I get to glassing. Takes the chill off immediately.

Is there any place around that you can try the stuff on before buying it or is it just online?

It's only online. There are no retailers. That's why it is so much cheaper than Sitka.

I have the attack pant but have not field test it yet.  The fit is a little bigger than the Sitka for size M.  I like the button on the Kuiu better than the snap button on the Sitka.  Both are good since they were designed by the same person.
