It's hard to judge a hit on a bear by a blood trail. My opinion is that's not much blood. May be a lethal shot but could be flesh wound too. :twocents:

When you see enough animals shot it makes it a little easier to tell the type of hits. Bears do not bleed well and with that color and amount of blood he hit something vital, probably liver. The 2nd picture looks like there is a little lung blood in it with the foam on the left side of that stump. Most looks like the darker blood you get from a liver shot.
If indeed I'm wrong and it's liver there should be recovery soon.

One thing for sure! Lot's of good people out there willing to help

Bear's are tuff and can take a lot to bring down. We found one that was shot back about 1200yards from where it was shot. If it got into a swamp it could be tricky. In normal cover they would have a good chance. I keep hoping to see a post with bear down in it!

I helped look this morning before work. crazy amounts of blood to two beds and then nothing at all anywhere. looked like liver blood if I was to guess but there can't be.much blood left in the bear after what I saw. really thick underbrush where the blood ended so you basically need to step on him to find it .good luck men he's out there somewhere

Sounds like he was a hurting unit and lost a lot of blood. They are hard as heck to spot in that thick crap when they are down. I hope they have luck and can find him.

A little off topic but is it legal to leave weapons behind and use hounds for recovery purpose.  What about a "stranger" :chuckle: just walking his dog thru the woods?
MAGA!  Again..

yeah I know they are tuff ...my buddy shot one one time and he swears he center punched it with his bow ...after seeing all the blood I was thinking he did not make it far ...it was in a swampy area too .... after tracking it about a 1/2 mile we came to a wallow where the bear layed up in the mud ....one bloody hole for sure but after that we found nothen ....it was crazy but it got away .

I helped look for a while this afternoon and got soaked.   Whatever blood was there has now washed away.  Brush is so think you can't look down and see your own feet.  As far as I know they're still searching but it doesn't look good to be honest.

what was the total distance the bear has traveled since it was shot?

I'm glad to see that you guys are giving it your all. Awesome sportsmanship. And if it isn't found then that is just the way it goes sometimes.
