What type of hunting do you do? Rifle muzzleloader bow? Are you looking for deer or elk hunts.

Get a Washington State Gazetteer that will give you a good overview of the state. When you find an area you want to check out get the county or forest land map then specific topographic on drainages. Western Washington is not much different than Oregon other than less Deer/Elk and more people

Be careful around Greenwater, that is the white river unit and it is a permit only unit for elk, it is open for deer though. You can access the Stampede unit through Greenwater wich is open for archery elk.

You can get the GMU maps at wholesale Sports, Sportsman's Warehouse, Cabelas, etc. They show roads, boundaries, etc. You can get te GMUs from the game book.
You can also go to WDFW site and print maps as well.

I grew up hunting in Oregon and moved to Washington about 10 years ago. And just as of last year after doing a lot of hunting and scouting, and asking a lot of questions, I finally got into some good hunting areas here. I hunt mainly SW Washington, but I've heard there are some decent areas east and north of Seattle. Your best bet would be private timber lands like Weyerhaeuser, and walking into gated areas.
Oregon and Wa are similar, yet you can hunt both sides of the state for general whereas Oregon is controlled only on east side. And so far, at least down here anyway, no matter where you go you will run into people. But don't let that discourage you. Get up earlier, drive a little longer and walk in a little farther. You will see animals! And less people! Good luck! Welcome to Washington!
