I am looking to buy the Nikon Monarchs 8x42. Found them brand new for 200$ Or should I buy the 10X42? I hunt eastside and westside. So I am looking for a all around optic.

10X42 works great for (almost) everything.  I use 10X42 Swaros for tight cover to the NV desert and love them.

You should really look at the Zen Ray 10x42

Also the Redfield 10x42.  I looked through these the other day at Bi Mart.  Exceptionally clear, and easy to use.  Leupold glass is hard to beat.

I have them in 10X42. Like them a lot. I miss the old rubber eye cups tho... I dont like this new generation of twist up plastic eye cups...

I have the 10x42 monarchs and like them a lot.  Have some 8x as well which my wife gets to use

i have the 12x42 monarchs and love them. i think its really hard to beat the monarchs for the $

I always prefer a 8x bino. Its easy to steady, doesn't pick up as much heat and works better in low light.

I have those in 8X42 and have been very pleased with them. New for $200 is a bargain.

I find with less expensive glass lower power/larger EP is better.  I have both 7X35 and 10X42 in some expensive glass.  I find I use the 7X more than twice as much as the 10X.  The 10X are better when shooting my gun, hitting the archery range and sizing up goats from long distance.  7X much better for finding animals, long days of glassing and watching for those damn thieves in the neighborhood at night.

I had at the same time, 8x42, 10x42&12x50 leica and 15x56 swaros, and 8x32 edg's. I sold all but the edg's and 15x swaros. Much less eye fatigue with lower power binos and you don't give up anything.....I think you gain.

im looking as well for binos.  so it sounds to me that the lower power you get, the better it is to glass long periods?  i was looking at the 10x42, but now it appears i should get the 8x.  right now i have 12x bushnell.  they make me cross eyed after looking through them cause they are cheap.  i like the 12x though.  can't imagine using much less than 10x.  what i want is brightness, and clarity.  not double image, lack of brightness, like my bushnell. 
i personally know the zenray binos are amazing.  my buddy has a pair and it makes night look like day.  literally!!  he has the higher end zen ray's that i can't afford.  i am looking around 150 to spend. 
what features should i look for that will get me brightness and clarity in a binocular?  all these coated lenses and other features i just don't understand what they do.
