Who drew a muzzy blues tag?
« on: June 08, 2012, 10:51:00 PM »
It seems us muzzy guys are pretty quiet about these tags, I'm just curious if  you drew. Pm me if you want. I put in for tucannan and wenaha, but after waiting 17 years to draw a quality elk tag, I think I'm done with this bs. Next year just might be the blues watershed with a buddy, 45 tags and low applicants... I'm all over it.

I know you are talking about bulls, but I drew the late cow and the late white tail buck.

My dad put in for watershed the last 16 years, this year put in elsewhere. 17 points and still no draw. Guy I talked to last year said a lot of guys shot small branch bull. If you do get drawn hike way down in there!

I was in the watershed last year with a buddy that drew (8points). Very demanding ground, but beautiful elk country. Sounds like your dad has the same luck as me, I shouldn't be but I'm surprised he didn't draw with that many points and tags given out. That sucks. I think guys shoot smaller bulls because of the terrain, after two days hiking in there they just want to get there bull and go home. I bet half of the guys don't even hunt it after the first weekend. We ended up with a nice bull, but we did see bigger ones.

PathfinderJR and I drew late cow muzzy tags for Blue Creek.  We'll start talking to landowners this week.  We put in for the tag on a tip from a friend of ours that farms, so we'll start with him.  I am of the opinion that the muzzy bull tags are the best in the state.  When I am up cutting firewood a week after archery season ends, the bulls are going nuts...

Since that is open to mf, ml and archery at the same time can you exchange your tag for a modern tag?  I wouldn't wanna hunt in there with a bow with rifle hunters running around.

I don't think you can.  I stopped applying for the Shed when I started hunting archery for that reason.  You are right, that's gonna be a tough hunt with a bow.  Competeing with 44 other guys, all carrying rifles...not during the rut...can't spend the night in the unit...

Wrong section but a guy at work put in for the Dayton modern tag (general) on the suggestion of his cousin and drew it with 9pts.  He has never even heard of the blues!  He plans on hunting the first 4 days and then packing up and heading home so he can make it to elk camp in yakima!!!!!! :bash: :bash: :bash:  I think the bulls will be safe! :chuckle:

I drew a buck tag for Mt. View.. Sept 29th to Oct. 9th, not real excited about this one tho gonna be tough to even find a nice muley buck.  let alone kill one in those nasty holes down there.  I have packed many of spring bear (2 this year) and several big bulls out of that unit and its not easy!n

Mtman you should have a blast with that tag!!!

If you have time time and the horses, you should be able to find a decent buck.  I deer hunted in there a few years ago on foot.  Didn't see a single deer.  But then again, that was general season, plus my butt was so kicked after the first two days of hiking, I am not sure how effective we were by day 3.  Horses would have helped a lot.  I would try to locate my buck next month if I were you.

Pathfinder, thanks for the info. I have 10 more days of being on call then I can do some riding in the area. I have to pay for the sins of the fall by covering calls in the summer for my co workers. I have 31 working days off this year for our trips this fall. Even if I don't get a deer I had the opportunity to hunt in a cool area.

I got lucky and drew my first bull tag this year. Its for unit 1010. I've got 16 names on my list to get permission from. I'm a local so hope it works out for me. Alot of other locals also drew so competition will be fierce. Good luck to all,

Maybe we'll see you down there.  Heading down around 4pm today.  I'll be in one of two vehicles, either a grey F-350 crew cab or a silver Jeep wrangler.  No fires and low's in the upper 20's, gonna be a cold one.

Good luck and nice old narly bull.  Congrats to your boy.  Ran into a guy and his 12 year old son last weekend while scouting and his boy had drawn the Dayton bull tag.  Gonna check with them on Saturday and see how they are coming along.

Wazzu

Did you find them Wazzu?  I heard from a kid in my class today that a kid killed a 400+ bull in there.  Wasn't him, was it?
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.  That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

I will answer for him as I was there......We found him.  It was a great bull that he got.  I am not going to guess at the score but it is a great bull.  Here is a link to his story.

That's a great bull, but I don't think it's the one I heard about.  The one I heard about was a non-typical.
