Attaching rifle to pack

I just got an external frame pack that I will be using for the high buck hunt.  It doesn't have a provision for holding a rifle or built-in scabbard or anything like that.  I will have the gun on a sling most of the time I'm "in the zone" but I will need a way to have both hands free and not try to balance a sling on the approach to my area.

Any ideas/products out there?

IDK where you are but I believe I saw a scabbard in the puyallup sportsmans that may work for you. Also, you could check out voodoo tactical. I've been thinking about one of their scabbards for a while.

Years ago I bought a system that had a hook that bolted to the pack (it was wide enough for a sling to hang on) and a lower part that also bolted to the pack with a rubber pad and velcro to hold the stock tightly.

Or, depending on your sling, you could just carabiner to the top of your pack and let your weapon hang in front of you. Look up single point sling systems to see what I'm talking about.

i use a nimrod scabbard and like it alot

an inepensive soft rifle case and duct tape will also get you there

I'm getting a lot closer in my planning, but still don't have this one pinned down yet...

I really like the idea of the Kifaru Gunbearer and so far that is the frontrunner.  I would really like the option to secure the rifle to my pack behind my shoulder if that makes sense.  The area I'm hunting is easy enough walking that I will use a sling and my small "essentials" pack.  Does anyone know if there is a way to secure the rifle behind my back in a somewhat accessable way (I'm not really talking rapid fire, but at least without taking off the pack?  I'm thinking it might just be scabbard on the hike in and then just sling for times I'm actively hunting.

My hunting pack has side pockets/pouches and cinch straps, and I can stick the butt stock of a rifle in the bottom side pouch and the cinch straps in the middle and top to secure it down.  Rifle rides behind the shoulder, but I can't get it out without removing the pack.

Get you a nylon rifle scabbard, the kind that goes on a saddle.. adapt the straps and such to fit your pack...  problem solved.

Badlands Daypack-Can actually take the pack off your shoulders but leave it attached to your waist and swing it around to get to your rifle. $179 or cheaper at Camofire or perhaps used?

Use a 3' or 4' piece of webbing to wrap into a sling and attach it any way you want on your pack.
