swwwweeeeeet project.  I had a cherry red 66 mustang when I was 16.  It was my second car.  Loved it!!!  It would do 140 mph, had a 351 Cleveland in it.  Seats weren't bolted to the floor and it had no seatbelts.....yes I'm lucky to be alive!!

There's barely room for a 302 unless you cut the shock towers. got very blessed there and got drawn for multi season deer, blue mountain foothills late whitetail muzzle load, and mountain veiw modern firearm big bull elk for rifle. So I need to be saving money for that even though i really want to put it into the mustang. Praying I don't gwt drawn for Wyoming antelope! Haha. Anyone in tricities know of a good place to get the head liner redone? I plan on driving it out to the cool desert nights car cruise next Friday out in richland. I'm gonna just park it and watch the drive.

Well still no head liner, got the exhaust leaks fixed. Bought new door panels buy the Windows don't like to roll up correctly so until i figure that out they aren't going on.

The motor is a 302 with the stock 2 barrel. Nothing fancy at all. But I might be picking up a mustang ii with a 347 stroker in it. Aluminum heads and whole 9 yards. Drag car that was used 3 races and has maybe 250 miles on motor and tranny. So what do you guys think? Get the car and swap the motor, tranny, Ford 9 rear end with spool and 4.10 gear and i think i could try to swap the front suspension as well. Suppose to have around 500 HP

Cool!  I restored a '65 years ago.  The plastic rollers on the regulator arms break and fall apart with age.  That's probably why the windows don't work right.  Cheap and easy fix.  You can get enough aftermarket parts to biuld a whole car if you need to!

I've had cars over the years that I built like that (basically streetable drag cars).  Super fun as toys, but not as "daily drivers"...  it gets annoying pretty quick to keep putting high-octane fuel in a tank that nets you far less MPG than the motor you took out would.  Usually engines like that are a little more finicky about tuning as well, so you're going to be under the hood fairly frequently.  My experience, anyway.  All that said, sounds like a fun combo.

Too many variables that depend on how, and possibly more importantly, who did the build. But I would agree with Skillet that unless you like tinkering with it daily and burning money, it's best left for the weekends. Another thing, If you put that 9" with the spool under it you would be eating tires regularly as a daily driver, and brother tires aren't cheap these days.

Don't let this get you down though. This sounds like one hell of a project. My second car was a '65 that got piled up shortly before my 18th birthday. Good times.    Keep us updated, would love to see how this project turns out.

347 is a wicked stroker combo. If it's a good deal I would snatch it up and run it for a while. With aluminum heads 11.6 comp. Ratio will still need premium fuel at a minimum with a very close eye on timing for detonation issues. If it has good internals I would buy it run it for a time save a little cash and invest in lower compression pistons and turbo that sucker. For a more powerful street combo that will still run on premium fuel with proper setup and tuning.

The Ford 9 ill rip the spool out and put possi in. It wouldnt be a "daily driver" but one to drive around every once in awhile. So I guess cruiser? I mean if i could get 50k miles out of it it'd take me years to do donuts be worth it. The motor is suppose to have 10 grand invested into it. What's the timing need to be set at? I love being under the hood so tinkering with it shouldn't bug me to much. Id definetly hate to have it detonate on me. Tranny is a built 4 speed so that will probly go in the 66 as well.

10k is allot for a SBF it must be all aftermarket from the block to the intake at that price. Which is good, If it has a good block with good internals the sky is the limit for hp numbers and it should last a long time. As far as timing goes its very hard to say without knowing everything about the engine. personally I would either take the engine to a good engine shop that has a dyno and let them tune it with the fuel you want to run. Then you just drop it in and you know its as close to perfect as it gets. You could also take it to someone after its in the car and dyno it.

If that is out of the question then make sure you have good gauges on it. I would start very conservative on timing like somewhere around 26 degrees "total timing" and see how it likes that. Keep a close eye on engine heat. Also running it a little rich is better than lean. One other thing that would help is to blend in a few gallons of race fuel with fill ups just to keep the Octane up.

Another consideration could be E85 fuel its an easy conversion and has a higher octane rating than pump gas. There is allot of info on it on the web and its worth checking out, you would be able to make a considerable amount more hp if you were to use it.
