Field photos 2 1/2 hours of scouting.
« on: August 09, 2008, 11:45:51 PM »
Well decided at about 2:30pm that I would go scout out a few new roads this afternoon.  Left the house a bit late around 6pm.

First I went up to check an area I had already been once to see how the Cascara/Salal/Blackberries were doing.  Everything was still pretty green in this first area.

So I moved on to a new area I wanted to check out that I had never been in before.  Found a good bit of Bear sign and damage along one of the 3 roads I checked out.  Just as I got to the last road for the evening,  as it was getting dark, I jumped a spike and a Doe.

I got onto one section on the road (about 4/10 of a mile) that had been hammered pretty hard in the past by Bear.  I lost track of the peels right around 25.  The peels were all different ages and surrounded a pretty good size stand of Cascara and other berry bushes.

Here are a couple pic's of the stand of Cascara.  The cascara is not quite ripe yet in this area, still pretty green.  All the Dead trees in the back ground I am fairly confident have been peeled since I didn't see one dead tree that hadn't been.

Some pictures of some of the older Peels I found just along the road.

I happened to glace in to the trees a ways and and spotted a fresh peel.  So I walked in to take a picture and found a second peel about 6 feet away along the same trail.  Both were made this spring.  Some of the trees in this area still have light green candles (tips of branches indicating active growth).

Among all the peeled timber I found several stumps and logs that the bears have been messing with.  The small log I found had been completely torn apart.

:) To top it all off I ran accross a fresh small Buck Rub among all this Bear sign.

I spotted all of this damage from a spur road all within approx. 4/10 of a mile.

Michelle, why waste time showing pics of old peels? We have seen all of them....show us fresh peels. Oh and include the road numbers & GPS coordinates of course.

Why not?  It went along with my post.  I did post pictures of some of the fresh peels I found.

That was funny, and apparently blew right over her head.
