Anyone draw Pearrygin quality rifle buck?
« on: June 16, 2012, 02:28:15 PM »
I had this tag a couple years back and had not come across anyone since that has drawn it.  We had a fantastic hunt and killed two bucks over 28 inches.

A couple buddies of mine drew it and I will be camping with them during the hunt. I have a Chewuch whitetail tag at same time so will be spend a few days trying to fill that and then the rest of the time with them. Should be a good hunt. I have hunted the area for years but if you have any pointers for the late season hunt it would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I drew the whitetail tag on accident a few years ago.  Made a few scouting trips and only found a few WT does and one small WT buck...This tag is best for someone who has lots of private property permission (where the monsters lie).  Most whities are in the bottom and river beds.  Consequently when I was searching it was ridiculous how many big muley bucks where running the hillsides chasing the good smells from the ladies.  You shouldn't have any problem taking a nice buck.  I'd recommend spending at least 7 days if you want to hold out for a wall hanger.  I saw most the muley action the last 5 days (Nov 15-20).  It was fun to watch and I was completly impressed.  Great tag and you'll have lots of fun.  Best of luck.

Pray for a little snow I drew a gardner tag in 2000 and it took all of a mile walk and an hour. 3x5 muley on the wall. We were loaded for the whole season and I ruined it the first morning ;) That will be my next draw unless I die first

I know my whitetail tag won't be too easy to fill. I know a few areas with some state and forest service land that hold whitetails so I have a place to start. We will be over there for full week for so plans are to hold out as long as they can. We were over there last year in Mid November just to look at the bucks and do a little fishing. In just a couple days of driving the roads we must have seen 50 different bucks with most in the Pearrygin unit and they were all rutting heavy. We are going over around Nov 11th to the 19th.

I remember your guys bucks and those were a couple of bruisers. I will be contacting you if I ever draw this tag. I have 13 points, but I probably wont draw it until I have 20 points.   :chuckle:

Here are the bucks we got two years ago.  We did not hunt on any private for the mulie tag.  It was all public DYI and there were bucks a plenty.  Pm me if you need a few pointers.

Sorry for the thread jack, but I'm trying to learn a bit about this area and will be headed up to explore it around the Fourth of July. Everybody talks about the quality tag for this unit. Does that mean that the general season is nothing special? The numbers in the area look good and it looks like amazing country to explore.

We'll be camping up in the Buck Lake area and will be looking for a spot for me to get my first deer this year. Just curious  of the differences or if the enthusiasm is for the fun and excitement of the late-season hunts here?

Definitely a migratory area but like most of them there are local deer.

I drew the tag with 10pts this year. Havent been up there in years.  It was my first choice after talking with a friend from work whose brother drew it a couple years back. Said there were lots of bucks and he ended up killing a nice 4x4. Not sure how much work they were willing to put in. They killed him the first or second day of the first week.

I was wondering when we would see who had the 224/218 tags thought more guys on here would have gotten them. Been at the cabin the last 4 weekends but have not seen any bucks yet that look like they will be Nov. shooter's. Did see 2 nice bear 2 weeks ago up cub creek.
