Just curious.  Have seen about 3 people on the forum that drew the cow tag.  Was curious about the company I'd be in.  I'm probably going to make a trip up in July for a family camping trip/scouting trip.

there's other places that are much more crowded , you should be able to get into elf if you get off the roads.

Filling that cow tag should be pretty easy.  There are a ton of elk running around and they will not have been messed with at that point.  Good luck, it is a pretty cool area.

I expect more people out there now after handing out cow tags but it still wont be nearly as crowed as it used to be. Filling a cow tag shouldnt be to difficult with a little scouting.

That area since its true spike is almost dead. Maybe opening weekend you'll see some pressure but after that it drops to almost Nada. I never saw someone actually get off their quad or out of their jeep. The only people I saw was when I was grabbing a bite in camp. While hunting I could hear hunters on ATVs. But as far as people out in the woods I saw 1 person and that person was too lazy to even go in after elk he could see.

So you should be fine. Shouldn't be much if any pressure.

The team is being reassembled now that I have theee tag! I am sure glad that a cow tag is a slam dunk but wait I have take 4 out of there and none were :) easy. Every one came out in quarters in a pack. :)

Well, I don't own a quad.  When I see elk close enough to see, I'll  climb that mountain, or drop off the mountain side...sometimes just slow enough for them to get away and have to climb back up the mountain.  One time when I was younger, I was hunting a 3 point minimum deer area and spent all morning hiking up a mountainside in snake river area, got to the top and saw a buck about a mile down the hill I just climbed up.  Could not tell if it had 3 points, so climbed all the way down to get close enough to see.  It was a 2 by 3 and stalked to within 40 yards with my rifle.  Suspect this is going to be a big walking trip, lots of miles on the boots.

The areas I usually hunt, it's usually about walking slow through elk habitat and coming up on them.  Suspect this will be more spot and stalk opportunities, with some positioning to try to get in front of them as they are moving through, maybe setting up on water sources in the p.m.

Though I'd love to get a cow, I almost want it to take at least a week to get it :P  Will be hunting the whole time though if I have to.

Oh I will be hunting it...... for spikes.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

LOL everyone when I said "easy" I didn't mean physically easy, I just meant that there is alot of targets available.  Jericho that area is really conducive to spot and stalk.  Without much pressure you wont have people kicking and moving the elk all around.  So spot and stalk would be the best bet.

I'll be there. I have an early archery cow tag for up there. I went up on Sunday to hang a couple of cameras. Lots of elk everywhere. This will be my first archery elk season in the Colockum. I get more and more excited everyday!
