Westport 8/26
« on: August 26, 2008, 09:01:44 PM »
As mentioned, we headed to Westport today. I overslept a little so we were about a half hour late getting started. My buddy Lyle and I met Jeremiah and his buddy Brent (yes there were two of us) at Grand Mound at 5am. Got the boat launched at 6:30am and we were on our way. Was treated to this nice sunrise on the way out.

Started fishing about 12 miles out and before all four rods were in the water, we had a shaker to the boat, so it seemed promising. After a little while, Jeremiah hooked up with a Silver. Got it to the boat and it was a nice 5-6lb Silver...in the box it went. Got back to trolling, and a little while later the rod goes off again...this time its my turn (Jeremiah hates me for this  :chuckle:). I can immediately tell it is a good fish as it burns my thumb while I try and stop him. Get him to the boat, and Jeremiah nets this dandy 27lb King for me.

After this it was a lot of shakers and then Jeremiah hooked a decent fish that spit the hook but flossed itself with the mainline above the flasher. We still almost managed to get that one in the net, but it got off. A little while later, the other Brent's rod goes off, and he gets this nice 9-10lb clipped Silver to the boat after a short but decent fight.

We trolled for quite a while without a bite, and then my rod goes off. Got it to the boat and it was about an 8lb unclipped Silver...back in the water it went. We trolled until about 2pm before calling it a day. We ended up about 14 miles out, caught a lot of shakers, and came home with three nice fish. It sounded a little slow listening to the VHF, but you couldn't beat the weather.

Nice pics and story. Jeremiah must have his Toutle hunt all planned out, going fishing rather than scouting. How deep and what were you trolling?

We caught fish with our gear down anywhere from 30-75 feet. We started in 150 feet of water and ended up in 200 by the end of the day. Flashers and a variety of Coyote Spoons.
