You are all safer now!
« on: June 18, 2012, 06:20:34 PM »
I have taken the "Boater's Safety Course", what a joke! Don't forget to take the stupid thing and wind up with a ticket.

This one is a free class that you take and fill out a form, put it, $10 and a copy of the certificate you got from the course to the state (they give you the address).

The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

If anyone would actually benefit from that...HELL NO! The worst part about the course is that every time you turn a page you have to wait 23 seconds before turning the next, the second worst is that there is very little practical knowledge in a course that takes about 8 hours...

Good deal, if you did receive a ticket for not having one they would remember you and keep giving you more tickets. So now that you did get the cert, the states budget problems will just have to continue.  :IBCOOL:

Been meaning to get one, but as of tomarow I'm good again till the end of the year :chuckle: Sometimes it pays off getting older.

Actualy I tested out way back when before the card came about, just to lazy to send in the paper work.

There's still courses you can go straight to the exam. Just costs a bit more.

Well I have looked over the exam but I have no intentions of taking it. It just seems like a waste of time to me plus there is an exemption in there that allows me to skate by!

I took it a few years back when I got my guides license. Not very much useful or practical info in the test.

I do think it is a pile of crap that you have to send in a $10 payment so they can process your application which they are forcing you to send in!

I just did the at home course offered free from Washington state parks.  I ordered online and they mail you a book and test pamphlet so you do an open book test.  I mailed my test back and a few days later got my certificate of completion, now I mail that and $10.00 and get my card...oh boy :dunno:  It was a pain but not all the info was useless.  If someone is new to boating it may be helpful.  At least I'm done now, I need my card in 2013.

I agree, its not all useless. There was some good information about bouys, and that they are different in Europe.

In most counties now it's an automatic ticket if you don't have it.  I think the only other automatic ticket is not enough life jackets.  That's not counting fish and game violations of course.
And I think God must be a cowboy at heart
He made wide open spaces from the start
He made grass and trees and mountains and a horse to be a friend
And trails to lead ol' cowboys home again
