Savage LRH 111
« on: June 17, 2012, 09:09:54 PM »
Just wondering how many of you have this rifle and how do you like them? I just bought one in the 6.54x284 Norma and it is the poorest fit and finish rifle I have ever owned. But HOLY CRAP does it shoot. Not even broke in yet and it's punching less that 1/2 MOA. Others?

Long Range Hunter?

I'm not surprised, all of the Savages I have shot have been good shooters and a few have been really great shooters.
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

Savage sponsored a range day with a line up of their rifle through Hooked On Toys in Wenatchee this last Saturday. Like mentioned above, fit and finish was lacking to say the least but those rifles were shooting some outstanding groups with factory Hornady ammo. Also I noticed they were a bit pricy as compared to Savages usual price ranges over the years. I guess the beauty is in the groups, in this case. :o

Were all their Models shooting well? Or a select few? Accustocks better than the others? Thanks

I'm with everybody else, Savages aren't typically pretty but they always seem to shoot.

I have always been more of a "functional beauty" type of guy, so I love Savage! The most accurate gun I've ever owned was a bone stock Savage LRPV in 22-250. The barrel didn't sit even in the stock and the action had some tooling marks, but it would regularly print 5 shot groups in the .1" range at 100 yards. I didn't even bother bedding the action to make the barrel sit straight. I just left it alone.

Of the 19 Savages I've had (I still have 10 of them) all of them have shot .5 MOA or better with a little load development. The good news is that with a little work you can fix the poor fit and finish. It's a lot more difficult to fix a poor shooting gun.
