Wolf Track?
« on: October 13, 2012, 07:42:34 PM »
I saw this on the opener of muzzle loader season. This was a couple miles from the gate where there was a herd of elk hanging out. I caught up to them another 300 yards in. This track was over the fresh elk tracks. This was north of Newman Lake.
I hunt therefore I am.

How big is the track  :dunno: Measure your rangefinder to find out. Measure the part of your range finder that is equivalent to the track

It is 3 1/4" wide x 5 1/8" long.

The sandy soil makes the track appear larger than it is. Note the other front foot on the other side of the range finder! I think it is a coyote track.

There were some coyote tracks there too but this set was quite a bit larger.
I hunt therefore I am.

I would agree the track on one side is defintely coyote sized, but the larger track is definitely not being made by the same animal.  :twocents:

There is no way to tell a wolf track from a big dog track, but coyotes are significantly smaller than wolves... the difference in tracks is like a deer vs. moose...

Wolves leave large prints- It wouldn't suprise me if there were a few wondering around just North of Spokane.
