Shoot shove and shut up once a dog starts chasing game you’ll never break him of it. it’s no different than chasing livestock on a ranch. If you don’t want your dog shot tied up I just love everybody moves to the country and thinks they can turn their dog loose on their one acre piece and think that dog has fair roaming with a 500 acres around him..

I bet I know exactly the area you’re hunting. It happened to my buddy last year while stalking in on a buck in there. Sucks to say the least.

What do u mean by saying the deer blew up?
While archery deer hunting Wednesday, my buddy and I ran into another hunter , he started telling us while in his tree stand  a doe came running by and behind it was three domestic dogs chasing the deer .
Later in the morning we spotted four does and a decent buck as we made a play on them , we heard what we where certain domestic dogs barking and baying, as we closed the distance between us and the deer ,here came three dogs , a Boston Terrier , German Shepard and one I have no idea What it was , the deer blew up and scattered , the three dogs went in the direction of two of the does barking and baying , we got to high ground and sure as heck they where running the two does!
I called and left a message with WDFW , but the question would be what's a hunter to do in this instance?
My hope is someone is missing some domestic dogs and they can PM me and we can meet and show them where they are hanging out , odds are slim on that because where we are hunting is pretty deep and I have a feeling someone dumped some dogs and they are just trying to live and adapt to there new life??

Had this problem a few years back.  4 dogs chased a doe across my property and couple days later saw them chasing another in a field nearby.  Called wdfw and reported. Was asked if I knew who owned them (I didnt) and was told I could destroy them if they chased again on my property. Warden also told me it was a big problem in our area and had reports of several fawn kills attributed to domestic dogs.  Found out later that some of the other locals had taken care of the pack, at least two while feeding on a downed deer. Domestic dogs running freely in deer country is not good , let your conscience be your guide as to how you'd handle it.

Shoot them all. No reason to dig a hole.

We were cougar hunting years ago Christmas time.     Tracking with snowmobiles back in the backcountry miles and miles from the nearest home.  We had already seen the tracks of the dogs and found a couple dead deer.  We rounded a corner and  ran into a pack of dogs.  One of them even charged at my dad who swiftly put him down with the .41 .   I had the 30-30 on my back and quickly went into action.  If I recall right, we killed 6 and one got away.   We went back to our vehicles and the game warden was there gearing up to go look for these dogs.   My Dad told him what we had encountered and took him to the kill site.   As far as I remember he thanked us and he went off to look for the one that got away.  Those were different times.

I can also recall when I had a dog in my scope who was harassing deer and just before I pulled the trigger a cross country skier came into the picture.   I can remember being very glad I hadnt pulled the trigger.

Interesting. When I was a teenager I was hunting and a pack of dogs ran a deer by me. I fired a shot in the air to stop them. They did stop the chase and decided to charge me instead. I fired several rounds in front of them before they stopped coming and slunk away. Your mentioning that the dog charged your dad reminded me of my experience. Once those dogs get the chase and kill fever it doesn't seem to matter who their prey is.
