Sako A7 Long Range
«
on:
June 27, 2013, 05:31:31 PM »
Anyone have any information on this rifle? I saw and handled one at Cabelas the other day, but Sako doesn't even list it on their website. All the information I can find on it is here:
http://www.longrangehunting.com/forums/f19/sako-a7-long-range-115710/
Their 'Long Range' rifle has the olive with black webbing stock, and their similar 'Big Game' rifle has a black with gray webbing (if I remember right) stock. The Long Range's have 26" heavy fluted barrels. Looked like a sweet rifle.

Are you talking about the a7 tecomate?

Nope, it's not the tecomate. I did see your new setup though teanawayslayer and it's awesome! The rifles they had in stock in the 'Long Range' were 25-06, 7mm, and .300 win mag. Don't remember the 'Big Game' calibers.

My main question is if the barrel on them is a coated stainless steel or not, it has a black finish but it looked like a coating. I asked the guy behind the counter and he wasn't sure. Asked him to go in the back and check the box and he came back and said it was stainless, but didn't sound all that confident. Not sure that I trust he didn't just go back there and see an A7 box and assume that was it. . .

Yeah must be something built special for them. The 2 standard versions is the a7 and the a7 tecomate. The tecomate has the green black "think bell and Carlson stock" The standard a7 has a black or camo stock. I have never seen one with a black and gray webbing and I am a sako buff. Interesting to hear about it.

10-4, that's what the guys on that LRH link thought too. . . I might have to make a trip back up there tomorrow, though I don't know if I want to sit there for 45 minutes to put my hands on it again with the Saturday lines!

If you have to question a 45 min wait being worth purchasing a firearm or not. Then it's not for you and maybe mowing the lawn would be time better spent.😉
When I want a firearm , almost nothing gets in my way. I'd kick my mother down the stairs at the capital building for a shot a a firearm on my short list. That's right! My own mother. Getting the picture of what's wrong with me?😉😉😉😃

Don't get me wrong, if I were ready to make the purchase I'd have no problem waiting. Right now I'm just looking for information on the rifle so that I can stew over it and compare etc. . .

Is it and imported Sako (Sako USA/Berretta)?or a Finnish gun that Cabelas imported? Is it brand new, or something custom assembled? Or yes, maybe built for Cabelas by Sako? Never heard of them doing that tho...

Confirmed it is a Cabelas exclusive rifle (Sako A7 Long Range), as well as the Sako A7 Big Game. At least their price tags have an Exclusive label on the backside of them.
The 'Long Range' heavy fluted barrel and action are indeed a coated stainless steel. Sweet rifle. Now I'm torn between it and a Sendero II SS Fluted.
Attached are pictures take with my crappy camera phone! The ones in front with the 26" heavy fluted barrel and olive stock are the Long Range rifles, and the black webbed stock behind them, with the 24" standard contour SS fluted barrels, are the Big Game rifles.

I tried to get a good enough phone pic with the price, but my camera phone is just garbage.
The LR had a $1299 price tag, and if I remember right the BG was $1199.
