I used to hunt the Quilomene unit with my family as a kid back when its was still a general hunt for deer.  Now, after 16 or 17 years of waiting i finally have drawn a quality deer tag for the unit.  I was over the moon excited about it but then the unit caught on fire and much of where i planned to hunt has been burned.  I am not sure whether it will wind up being a positive or a negative.  maybe the deer will be much more concentrated and easier to find in the space that is left, or maybe there will be less deer around in general.  I will be going over soon to explore and find out how things look.

You'll be fine.  The fall green up will happen and the deer will be back.  I wouldn't get too discouraged by what you don't see in your trip over soon.

I think the worst situation you could have would be road closures this fall due to potential erosion.  It could make access very, very difficult if this happens.

I am a disabled hunter. Have pulmonary fibrosis and have a good deal of trouble breathing. I am 64 years old and have been hunting since I was ten.  I would like to know if any of you have the same problems and just how you handle them. I have already put in for the coming season's special, disabled, hunt but would appreciate any advice. Thanks. Steve

Hope for rain.  Years ago in Goldendale after a fire in the oaks - went into the burn and it was loaded with deer..  the trees were pushing green buds and that was what they were eating .  the trees were black and ashy and so were the deer

If i was you i would hunt the burn. The new green growth from the the fire the deer will be on it like candy. Thats what i would do.

It won't be hard to hunt the burn. I was just over there and everything from south of west bar including all of west bar plus most of the way to wenatchee and over the top towards eburg is torched. It's really strange. It will come back but this season will be interesting.

All the big ones are migrating in anyway, they come whether its burned or not.  Probably just be more open

That's true, and the long term benefits should be good. It's just amazing to see the initial devastation close up. Being more open is an under statement.

The burn areas seem to attract the deer from what I have witnessed.

There will be areas that have not been touched or just got a little.  You will be in good shape.

Hunt the timbered fringes around the burn. Deer and elk love eating the burnt charcoal as well and the new growth that should be present in the fall. Plus you have an opportunity to get a big buck with jet black antlers

so not realizing the geographic proximity to me i'd better get get glassing as i am guessing that early the big bucks will be pushed right to me  be out there saturday, so dont worry there will be one less
