I'm torn between a Coopers Hawk and a Sharp-shinned Hawk.

I am tagging this one.  While I was sitting in my blind Friday one was sitting on a fence post.  Pretty cool looking hawk.

The first pics look like a Merlin or Pigeon Hawk to me.  They are slightly larger than the Sparrow Hawk or Kestrel.  The Kestrel is also much more colorful, even the females.

The other is a Rough-legged hawk with the dark belly and barred upper breast.

Pictures 1 + 2 look like a juvenile Sharp-Shinned Hawk.  The white spots on the back give it away.  They lose a lot of the barring as they mature, but the white spots get more pronounced.  I have one availing himself of the Starling kills around my place...  :twocents:

I agree with the Sharp-shinned Hawk, the first pics.
I also agree with the Rough-legged hawk, technically called a Ferruginous Rough Legged hawk.
They winter in large numbers in the Columbia basin area.

The Rough-legged Hawk is bigger than the Sharp-Shinned Hawk.  I probably have both, but the little guy is the only one I can identify.....
