Looked like a wolf
« on: December 10, 2013, 10:40:15 AM »
Two friends and I were hunting for elk yesterday in the Johns river area of Grays Harbor county when we saw something that did;nt belong. We saw something on a side road and stopped to see what it was  . It stopped in the road about 100 yards away and we all looked at it with our binoculars it was solid black and looked to be around 70 pounds and looked like a wolf. I have lived here for 40 some years and seen lots of coyotes and have seen wolves in mt. and this sure looked like a wolf. We were miles from anay homes and when it turned and saw us it quickly jumped into the timber. Anyway it sure had us talking and we went to look at the tracks and  wished we had a camera.

Could have been a red fox with a dark color phase

Dog,  Seen the same one a couple of weeks ago.  I though it was a small bear in the distance until I got closer.

I saw an similar animal in the snow near St. Helens this past weekend. No way it was 70 pounds though- I'd guess 30 pounds max. Gut instinct had me calling it a fisher, but :dunno: It had a long tail and shortish legs. Appeared all black.
