Any ellensburg cat hunters?
« on: November 20, 2008, 05:56:59 PM »
Last year was my first year in ellensburg, and I was into cat tracks everyday. Saw one, but never got a shot. The snow was too deep, even with my snowshoes. It was snowing like 8" each night so the snow was too soft. Does anybody else cat hunt or had success in the ellensburg area? What method?

I know Rainshadow has called in cats before. I think he has some cat calling sequences set up. I would love to call in a cat. Good luck and hope you get one this year.

A friend of a friend, who lives in Cle Elum, tracks cougars down pretty regular in the winter and kills them. Always the day after fresh snow. I would like to try it sometime.

That is what I was doing last year. But I never did hit a good day. Either there wasn't fresh snow, or more often the fresh snow was too deep on top of existing soft snow. In that kind of snow it was a workout to walk 200 yards with snowshoes.
