Clamming Closed
« on: May 07, 2015, 10:40:08 AM »
Went down this morning 4 limits in 10 minutes big clams holes everywhere then talked to a game warden and they closed digging the next three days because of domoic acid. Funny we can eat them today but not tomorrow good thing is we found 3 glass balls this morning there have been quite a few wash in this past week because of the westerly storm we had.

Nice score on the balls and the clams.

I think the state has a ppm (part per million for those unfamiliar) threshold that they do not allow clamming after it is reached.  By testing the clams continuously, they can estimate when that threshold will be reached.  Personally, I'm not sure I trust them enough and would probably not have gone clamming today.  Hope everything works out and they are tasty.

I think we will be looking at a lot more closures this year with the warmer than usual spring we have had as algae blooms will probably be worse.  This sucks as I have access to a nice oyster bed that continues to scream at me to come down, collect some, and fry them up.....
