Dollar store shoe organizers that hang make cheap great pockets to put stuff in a tent at night. Just hang off rail next to cot. Glasses keys, and stuff .cheaper than buying the canvas ones.

How do you guys keep rainwater out of your tent/stove during the day or over the course of a few days if you’re not there? I had a few inches of water inside my stove and water on the floor when I showed up after a few good rain storms. Vertical pipe straight out the top. I think most of the water is coming in around the pipe and not down the pipe

Do you have some kind of top on your stove pipe? I use a 90% angle.

I also made my own rain flys for my tents out of white tarps. I cut out the stove pipe hole and made an oversized flap to cover it when not using a stove.

Because the flap is oversized when pulled up it channels rain water either side of the stove pipe.

If I where leaving the tent for days I would lift the whole stack off and close the flap.

Flap closed this photo.

Gotcha i need to get a 90 for mine. I think most is coming through the flap though so pulling the stack and closing the flap might be the ticket for me. Stove was still hot when I left this morning as it was pouring and I wanted the water to evaporate when it hit the stove coming through the flap

Getting excited for my first wall tent camp. Take off in a week for Montana. Cut some beefy T posts today for stakes like I read on here. Couple questions for the seasoned vets, will you guys run snow flys on your tent for added insulation even if you aren’t expecting snow? Also wondering what the preferred technique is for having fires last a little longer in the stove at night, do you guys use the energy logs and get a couple going right before bed? I’ve got the cylinder stove Yukon stove (28” x 18” x 14.5”) I imagine that thing will put out some decent heat
They is where you aint and you aint where they is.

Those bearbricks or tacoma wood bricks will add a few hours to burn time.  Usually just load it up and close off the intake and damper and it smolders all nite - tho I have a big stove.

Yep on installing your snow slide. Will keep tent warmer. You will learn how to keep the fire going in all conditions soon.......... Presto logs are great..... :IBCOOL:

Just got back from my son's elk hunt.  We have a large cylinder stove and we do exactly what Magnum Willys said......get it hot and burning good.  Stuff it full of wood and dampen it down.  Eight to nine hours later it is still half full of charcoaled wood and the tent stays warm enough while your sleeping.  Anyone that wakes up to pee has to open the damper as they walk out to get it ripping again.  When they walk back in, chalk it full of wood and dampen it down again.

We did this for our nights and again for the days when we are out hunting.  We only had to re-lite the stove once in a 7 day hunt.....it otherwise always started ripping when we open it up.

Just a reminder. Make sure those stove jack flaps are tied up tight.

Stove jack flap didn’t get tied up well enough came down against pipe. Burnt flap up .
Retardant on canvas prevented real fire but still destroyed flap.
The black area is the gray area of your stove jack.

1/4 of flap visible, rest burnt.

Got a fix in the works.

I have two stove jacks in my tent.  Velcro covers on both and they work great.....eliminates the possibility of them blowing down against the pipe.   They have never leaked either.
