Shout out! Updated with pic.
« on: October 11, 2015, 05:18:50 PM »
I've been a "lurker" on hunt-wa for a long time but decided it was time to join up so I could give thanks.  A HUGE thank you to the 3 hunters from the "Pallet Palace" who helped my daughter and I recover my elk on Wednesday.  After we heard a shot close by, out of the timber emerged 4 cows, a calf, and a nice 1x2.  They trotted out in front of us at about 80 yards and I gave a little cow call with my custom Phelps call (Thanks Jason).  They all stopped broadside, and I touched off the old smoke pole with the distinct sound of a smack.  They busted over the ridge and out of sight.  My daughter and I headed over to look for tracks and blood.  A hunter came out of the timber in the direction of the earlier shot. He said he missed the spike but would help us look.  His dad joined us a few minutes later.  We found blood and followed it into the timber where we found him all piled up in a nasty, thick pile of downfall.  The father and son congratulated us and quickly offered to help getting him out of the mess. Another hunter from their camp showed up and the 4 of us drug him out saving my daughter and I a lot of pain and struggle.  They then offered to take some photos, gave us one last congratulations an then went on their merry way.  This act has left a big impression on my 14 year old daughter and myself.  Thanks again gentlemen, truly a class act. I will be delivering a 1/5th to the "Pallet Palace" next season.

Congratulations. That was great that your daughter was there for the kill, and to see the hunters from the pallet palace take the time to help you get your elk out.

It's always great to hear positive stories like this of fellow hunters helping out a stranger!     With all the negativity these days its good to hear about the good stories too.  Thanks for sharing your experience and congrats on a successful hunt!

That right there is the kind of story that I love to hear.  Real sportsmanship.  What a great hunt, and so happy to hear it was one for you and your daughter to share.
