Anybody seeing any kind of hatch on birds this year? I hope to do a scouting run coming back from dropping my daughter off at WSU.

I did some dog training at the Buckshot wildlife area today, and saw a covey of 12 to 15 young quail.  I had my own training birds, so I left them alone.  That won't be the case in Oct.   :chuckle:

Saw 2 covies of chukars on Saturday.  Both had several young ones.  Good sized covies as well.

Saw a couple batches of valley quail around Chewelah last week. Still seemed pretty small for mid August but glad to see them.

Have seen varying sizes of birds and clutches.  I've seen hens with 1 or 2 chicks and I've seen hens with over a dozen chicks.  Some quail chicks I've seen have been little but some were sub adult/juvenile.  Looks like turkey did well too.

Saw a batch of young pheasant the other day.  I couldn't count them all.  There was at least 2 dozen juveniles running around in, on and around the road.
