were you up high or lower I usually hunt the left side when I go in but think I might try the other this evening I know they are in there just a matter of where.

I was up high when I saw this one. There are a lot of good berry patched up at the top.

no to worried about a monster I just would like some bear sausage is all I know theres a lake up there somewhere I gotta try to find on the map uncle has taken a few nice ones from around the area.

I may know the lake you're talking about and it's not far from where I saw the little bear. It's a great spot for just about everything.

It is supposed to be 97 degrees on Saturday. I'm thinking that we are going to give that bear another week to let things cool down a bit. I lost a 300 pound bear up at Clearwater years ago due to heat spoilage and swore that I wouldn't take that chance again.

My camera spotted this one in there.  Wandering around in the heat of the day to boot!
can i ask why you positioned your cam there ?...the surrounding brush looks very tight/thick so just wondering what made you put the cam there?
good looking bear though

It was the only "tree" in the area and it was a brand new camera, I wasn't sure how well the "wide angle lens" was going to work.  It obviously didn't work well and the camera has been moved.  I know there is a big bull in the area, that's why I was dead set on getting it in there.

copy...was just wondering due to the position of the cam how you were able to get a point blank pic of that bear.  great job on that and hope you can track down some bulls.  last year i only saw 3 elk up there and they were all at the end of august and two were 6 pts and one was a 6x7.  they were all on the deschutes side...never saw them again although we also had trail cams out in those areas as well

I had just ran across 6 shooter bulls and they were nice I don't really hunt the area they were in because it has had the gate closed for so long but now that they keep it open I just might have to set up my cams! heading out tomorrow in search of the bear again will keep you all posted.

I'm thinking about heading in there tomorrow to take a look. Have never gotten a bear before.

For those of you that have seen them in vail are the clearings a place a could glass for them with some luck? Or do you usually see them in the thick and dark sh**?

i would guess that 90% of the time they are in the deep, dark, cool stuff but they have to come out to eat sometime.  My plan once the weather gets below africa hot level is to try and call them in the thick stuff and set up in a cleared area that has food in the low light periods
