Want to hunt wolves in ID. Any ideas?
« on: August 25, 2016, 12:54:54 PM »
My future F.I.L. and I were thinking about trying a little calling for bear this fall and thought it might be fun to try for wolf as well. I'm somewhat familiar with The St. Joe National forest and I've seen sign and heard howling up near the Northfork of the Clearwater which is about 30 miles due south of Avery but I'd like to narrow it a little. Do any of you have any ideas?  :dunno: I'd sure like to rug one or two of them *censored*s and I was hoping someone here may have some insight.

They move so much and so far that sitting around is a tough strategy... I would definitely be howling at them.  Get them going and move towards them howling as you go.  They will often answer and come in

This will be new to both of us. I've done a lot of calling and had luck with bears but this is something new to me.  :hello:  Thanks for the tip!! Much appreciated

could use wolf urine to lure them in (if it's legal there).

You need lots of information.

Every area seems to be a bit different.  The guys I've talked to say they come by in 10 day or so loops.  They'll run the logging roads able to smell if the elk are below them.  It would be a cool experience but I'd say your odds are looooong.
