Anyone duck hunting today or tomorrow?
« on: October 20, 2016, 09:00:26 AM »
Just did a little drive this morning and some folks are.

Yesterday I spent 3 hours cleaning and grassing in the blind in anticipation of a hunt this morning.....then at 6am this morning I remembered.

I never understood why they give it a break? I'm sure a lot of people don't care though

Waterfowl season is mandated to be 107 days in length.  They have the two day break early on so that the season can start on a Saturday and end on a Sunday.

Do you know the significance of the strict 107 day season? Is it just a quota thing?

I always thought it was to allow the 2 day youth hunt before the general season opened?

Yeah- the federal law allows for a maximum of 107 days. When they add an early youth season, they have to subtract those two days somewhere- it is better they do it mid week the first week, then cut off two days later in the season when migrating birds could be had. :twocents:

Season starts on a Saturday ends on a Sunday. That's the only reason for the closure. Been like that since the federal frame work started. It has nothing to do with a youth hunt.

I'm going to be on the east side Saturday - plan is to be out there early enough to get a spot some place public.  Going to have to be a shallow pond some place.
