Coyote with shotgun

What’s your favorite load? Also seems like whole country is sold out. If anyone has some coyote loads in lead I’d pay top dollar. Looking for 3 1/2 or 3 inch 12 gauge.

#4 Buck works fine as well. I have a bunch of 3" lead #2s that I can't legally use for anything else but they also work on yotes.

Only coyote I have killed with my shotgun was with a 2 3/4" #4 pheasant load. My dogs ran the yote out of a brushy area right toward me. Shot it at about 15 yards and it dies in another 15 yards. That being said I have a box of 3 1/2" Hevi Shot Dead Coyote that I always take with me when I am trying to call in yotes, but I haven't gotten one into range yet.

Lead BB's in a 3" shell. Relatively cheap and effective.

Off the shelf the BBB Turkey loads work pretty good. Use a turkey choke and your good to go I feel they work best aiming for the head. I've heard that these small holes are prefer when skinning for a mount or for fur sale.
My personal favorite is a home grown solution. I bought to Do It brand sling shot pellet mould. It has 1 kinds of shot size with an 1 ounce pour. One side has 11 cavities the other 9. Depending on how much tin content you have the 11 pour side works out some where between 0 buck & #1. I've used wheel weights, but have switched to what ever is in a trap load.
I buy a case of 100 trap rounds at Wal-Mart runs $30ish dollars. I open up the crimp and pour the lead out, melt and use the 11 cavity side. Once cooled I stack the #1 In the shot shell. You can get 9 of the pellets in 3 stacks of 3 I bend the crimps back over by hand then use a flat bladed screw driver to work the crimp down near factory specs.
I have shot well over a hundred of these and they work quite well out of my waterfowl gun. They throw a nice pattern and cannot be beat price wise. I have killed coyotes in the 60 to 70 yard range and folded them up with more than one pellet. I belive the key to the success is the use of a shot cup. Most buck shot spins as it contacts the barrel sides putting spin on the shot. The trap shot wad eliminates that spin. I would imagine there is shot deformation from the detonation force, and can tell you when I used wheel eights exclusively there was enough tin contact to prevent most of it. Patterns open up with the remelted shot.
I have also used some of the Estate 00 buck that I have purchased at Bi Mart. On sale I think I purchased them for $12 a box of 25. Another affordable option for closer in work as they spread quicker. Midway USA had several sales for case lots of Estate and Sellor & Bellot 250 rounds for $90 delivered.
Hope this information helps.

I’ve killed several with #4 buck but have never been able to get than to pattern as tight as I’d like. Same with some #2’s. I’ve always wondered about a turkey choke and #4 birdshot. Some of those turkey loads shoot super tight and I don’t see why they wouldn’t KO a coyote?

The Hevi shot Dead Coyote has been pretty killer for us. Super expensive but usually a box of 10 equals at least 5-6 dead dogs, to me that's worth the cost. With the matching choke tube I think it way out performs buckshot.

Hornady heavy shot coyote. Sportsmans warehouse has it on the shelf. Does a good deal to coyotes, I might have a box if you’re still looking. Bang flops.

always wondered if you were hunting an area that is steel shot only for all other game (ie birds) and its wetland (like potholes) what the thoughts are on requiring steel for this hunting too?
