What size side by side
« on: May 12, 2018, 08:43:12 AM »
Going to buy my first side by side and want to make sure I get one with enough power. I like what I see in the Honda Pioneer 700 four seater. I found a used 2016 700 but the seller is selling it to get one with more power? I will be using it for hunting only and will have one other person and my yellow lab with me most of the time. Anyone have opinions on the 700 or should a guy go for the 1000 just to be sure. How about fuel economy? Is there mpg stats out there on UTV's?

I dunno on Hondas.  Have had Honda quads.  2 things to add here.  They almost ALL have a low range good to about 25-40mph so power is sufficient for almost all machines.  Belts/cvt trans which I don't like are more reliable, easier to fix on trail, cheaper to fix.  Honda is a trans with gears not cvt.  Good n bad depending. My old Teryx 800 had gobs of torque, plenty of HP and was very good on fuel.  Also super reliable tough.  Probably more so then the Hondas.  4 seaters are great with Honda and Teryx as its the same frame/wheelbase as 2 seaters and not 99ft long.  This is good for trails.  I would be concerned whether the Honda has true 4x4 or a limited slip front end still.  This is a big deal in nasty spots.  Also why I have disdain for previous Honda and Can Ams!  Very bad feature to not have locking front diffs imop.  I think its about matching your use with machine.  Honda probably not great for sport n play.  Sure a 700 will be fine if its work/utility and basic trail putting.  I think u should consider things besides HP.  HP increase really only helps in snow, elevation, mud bogging, racing and SAND!  I chose to move up to a RZR Trail for use and the HP was fun!  Teryx was a better built machine and much tougher and better mpg.
MAGA!  Again..

The 700 will have plenty of power. We use a pioneer 500 every year on our late whitetail hunt and it is awesome. Will take you anywhere you need to go and has plenty of get up and go

I also run a pioneer 500 but if your wanting something with more power and don’t need 4 seats I would also look at pioneer 1000 3 seater, can find those at good prices sometimes.

Can ams run very hot and don't let anybody tell you different. I owned the 800 Commander and got rid of it for that reason. I could use it when it got 80 degrees outside.

My little 2017 RZR S 570 will run circles around Mudmans all day long.

BUY an EXTENDED warranty too.

My friend owns the 2 seater Honda 700, I think that's the one and loves it. Quiet, comfortable and gets him to where he wants to go.

You don't need 100HP in a UTV, mine has 45HP and that's all you need.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

I have a Polaris Ranger 570 midsize, plenty of power, dump bed for wood, I hauled a 4pt elk and deer to. Just fits in back of truck

Ah crap I am getting dizzy!!  :chuckle: Really 50hp aprox is plenty.  Unless speed is your thing.  over 50mph HP becomes important.  I have 75hp with a option to do 91hp but I don't want it or need it. The Teryx comes with a 3 year warranty.  Only one that does.  Pioneer 500 may be great for ya.  Dogs like the little beds well enough.  Just do it!!  I will add being able to ride all quad trails easily is pretty sweet as quad trails are all over sometimes.  My Teryx rubbed trees or just didn't make it at 60" width.  Many r ok though, depends. Camp is correct many machines are HOT!  Thus rear engine models keep cooler in the heat by far.
