I have to ask, hopefully no one gets offended.  :sry:

How do you know it’s the people pictured who mutilated the tree?
If they already knew they were on camera it seems like a dumb thing to do.

Leave my trees alone.  :chuckle:

I would have to guess that's who did it. Even if they new they were on camera. People can be that stupid. And generally are. At least when I encounter people. Although it is nice to have a change occasionally and encounter a level headed person.
Maturity is when you have the power to destroy someone who did you wrong but instead you breathe, walk away, and let life take care of them.

I don't think he personally attacked you? Just questioned why he even posted on here. Put yourself in his situation, you wouldn't be upset? When you say "It's interesting that one would moan about assumed illegal activity, yet indulge in another", that's the type of comment that you were clearly trying to get a argument going. You really think him putting salt out is the same as throwing a truck full of tires into the woods, and clearing some brush out of an overgrown skid road is the same as cutting down a tree? If that's the case 90% of the hunters on here need a ticket.

I'd say that's pretty accurate. Most hunters carry snips or some other form of pruning device to help tend to nature's garden while out hunting.

I just can’t get over how strange that cut is in that tree? Can’t imagine they were tying to sabotage you or set a trap as you couldn’t possibly miss that? Maybe they were attempting to fall it and with their obvious inexperienced injured themselves and left?  Also the brush pile appears to have a chunk that was cut with a chainsaw or at least a handsaw.  Why not use that to fall the tree?   Anyways I don’t know them and please keep that crazy ness on that side of the Gifford

I know nothing about forestry practices but it looks like there is a second downed tree in the background. Is it possible these trees were purposely cut down and someone left it up long enough for you to grab the camera?

I appreciate the input from everybody. This has understandably started a lot of side conversations. My goal was to get this sorted out before hunting season to avoid any potential conflicts then. As pissed as I am I’d prefer not to ruin any hunting days with said conflicts.  I went back and pulled some pics and omitted my conclusions, and simply stated the facts. I don’t want to deter these folks or their friends from coming forward to sort this out.

Also to clarify baiting rules, I checked and it’s 10gal not 5 gal max.

And incredibly stupid.  If someone got hurt trying to get back their camera, the liability and criminal aspect.  Even if the op tried to chop the tree down to get the camera and it fell stupid due to the dangerous cuts in it.

Dumb Dumb Dumb

And his face is on camera (so he should assume) and did it anyways! Not hard to fathom LE could find who it was and build a manslaughter case or worse if the op got killed by the tree

No, I do not recognize them.

NOTE: Comic relief. I was pulling a sheet of clean paper out of the trash just to make a temporary note and a buddy says "What are you doing?" I said "Trying to save a tree." He said "Why? If you kill one tree they are going to plant five more."
There are only so many sunrises left.

Guy is wearing the same shoes, and sunglasses on the brim. Also same build and “Russell” workwear style pants. Hard to tell from the picture, but looks like an orange handled machete strapped to his pack? Woman is also wearing the same shoes and same build.
