Layout Blind Suggestions
« on: September 10, 2019, 11:54:02 AM »
I've decided to add a layout blind to my hunting gear this season.   Any suggestions on which ones you've had success with or which ones to avoid?

When looking at a layout blind a lot has to do with how you use it. Are you packing? Using it from a boat? Storing it in a trailer? Do you prefer comfort and space or concealment?

Storage isn't an issue for me.  I'll be hiking it in somewhere around 200 yrds (field hunting).  Comfort and space are preferred.  Looking for enough room in the blind to store a medium sized lab.

Is the blind for a lab or for you and a lab?

Get a folding one.  I have 4 of the FA Pro-Guide Series and they are a pain to carry very far.  I also have 4 of the Rogers Goosebusters.  Don't get the XL unless your large individual.  Those are pretty big. These fold in half and are easy to pack out in to the field.  They recently had a sale on them for $140 each or in the ball park.  I have now used those for 6 or 7 years and shot 1,000 plus birds out of them.  Might be a good option for you.

Pretty much what h20fowlr said. I love the Pro-Guides but they are a pain in the butt. I really like the FA xlander (no longer made) but I believe the Rogers is pretty similar. If I was buying a new blind today I would probably either buy a used xlander or buy a goose buster.

I have little experience compared to the guys above, but I like the smaller, lighter blinds that are low profile.  When you get out in the field, the lower profile ones stick out way less and I didn't mind a tight fit.  I would be more concerned with being able to easily pack and conceal it than comfort, on really cold days I would just pack a cheap camping pad to put inside and lay on or heavier pants.

The bigger, roomier blinds are often harder to setup, harder to carry, much more expensive and stick out much more in the field.

I ordered the Rogers Goosebuster.  I'll be mudding it up next weekend.  Thanks for the help fellas.  Tapping into the knowledge and experience of guys on this site is sure an amazing resource and very much appreciated.

Rogers goose buster is third from the left.  Two prior are power hunters.  One to the right is a tangle free that is almost identical to the Rogers goose buster.
