First Deer
« on: October 04, 2020, 09:05:27 AM »
I'm taking my boy (15) for his first deer (Doe). I want to hunt unit 124. We are staying at the Antler Motel in Newport. Is there any place on Blanchard Road to get a Doe? We hunted around Newport last year and couldn't even find a doe on public land. Hunting sure isn't like it used to be. Oct. 17-19 General season. Thanks you guys!

Buy the IEP permit. Lots of IEP land off of Blanchard.

We hunted timber company land a couple years back About 4 miles off the Idaho border on Blanchard rd.  South side we saw deer in there. Worth taking a looking. Pm if you want more specifics.

Go drive around in the evening around farmers fields, you’ll see hundreds of deer. Knock on a few doors. I bet 1 out of 4 knocks you will get a yes for a youth doe hunt.

This is a good option, lots of IEP and less competition. I've hunted off Blanchard road a bit and the deer will head out to the fields and bed in the timber, so I used to hike towards the farms early before light and wait in the timber a few hundred yards from private on a good, beat up trail.  Honestly, I saw more deer closer to the road than further inland up the mountain.  Good luck! Also knocking on the doors of farmers does work.  Don't get discouraged when a few say no, someone will eventually say yes, especially with a youth on board.
