Something doesn't smell quite right with this thread and one of the OP's other posts on a similar St. Helens area topic. I think there might be a personal agenda at play here.

It's not in uncommon to leave some lands looking that way if there in the middle of nowhere. But public lands that border busy roadways ,trail systems, camp ground,ECT will look park like.Same could be said about road maintenance along with Alot of other issues. Just the way it is. :twocents:

I rather piss in the wind, then have piss down my back.

I was a DNR engineer in that area for 5 years.  At the time there was only on section we managed.  Fruit Growers had some land ORM which is now Rayonier own most of the land on the north side of the Lewis.  PacifiCorp owned a few sections but they were managing it for wildlife as a part of the dam license.  I can probably go into for detail than you want about why a unit looks the way it does, why trees were, and some of the other reasons DNR does the things it does.

It's 662.988 acres and its location is 46.11882 - 112.18801 In addition please pm me your phone number.I've hunted all over SW washington on DNR land and I have never seen land left this way. Also I'm not whining I'm concerned as a public land owner.and don't have a axe to grind.i talked with lots of hunters and people enjoying the mountian this year, all of them had the same opinion.

Looks like the Artic Cobra sale, and the expiration date isn't until the end of September 2021.

Preliminary sale documentation is here:
https://www.dnr.wa.gov/publications/psl_ts_may19_arcticcobra_packet.pdf

Looks like retention harvest with aggregates (leave areas), dispersed single trees, a requirement for retention of large down woody debris >24", and of course the FPA-required riparian buffers.

What is the specific concern?  Temporary road condition, damage to soils, slash abatement, damage to retention trees?  There are several people on this thread already with knowledge of forestry practices- I look forward to seeing discussion of this.

Your descriptions are pretty far off from the dnr cuts I've seen and I've seen a lot of them. I looked at your post history and you seem to complain a lot. Post those pictures and you'll get some feedback with an explanation. What you're describing sounds like an active job, that either you didn't see the equipment or they pulled off for a bit and will be back to complete.

He's talking about a specific cut. Have you seen it? Bruce's "complaints" are mainly out of concern for our wild ungulates and what's been happening to them, especially here in SW WA. He's been very active in the hoof disease issue and has spent hundreds of hours facing off with the state in that regard. It could well be an active job. Or it may be an irresponsible completion. But in any case, I know BBarnes and he posts and acts out of concern for our wildlife.

Just tagging to come back later to make sure I don't miss the pics.  And drone video should be pretty cool.

Thanks in advance for getting pics, BBarnes.

Thats fine. I was noting a trend in his posts and wanted to speak up that I've seen the dnr do a good job on many sales. Looks like this sale had a lot of optional road construction that was required to be abandoned at the end of the sale. That could explain some of the road conditions. I will check back for pictures, im curious to see them.

This may be the way of the future to save money on contracts. In the LT Murray areas over the last 2 years they (Wa State) have thinned trees and just left the mess. Ruined a lot of good hunting areas and created quiet a fire hazard. State foresters say " don't worry about it it will degrade over the next 10-20 years".
