Giardia infection in dogs

Daughter brought home a rescue dog 

Mixed it with my dogs, turns out it has Giardia infection.  Now my dogs gacking a bit and loose stools, the rescue dog likes to stick its feet in the water bowl.  Also notice their wster consumption is very high.

The rescue dog was prescribed metronidazole and a pro-biotic, its a powder to drop in the food bowl 2x daily. 

Question is could I just use aquarium metronidazole and treat the water bowl and treat all three dogs?   I think its hard to OD on it

Another Q is treating the yard, can I limit the giardia in the yard with a spray or powder?

I've got a proper treatment plan now, got tablets, probiotics to sooth gut, and isolating all three, removing poo and mowing the lawn short and bleaching the kennel with 30:1 solution.

Now if we get some stinking sunshine that'll cure the yard.

That and if you can keep them from sampling the turkey curls in the yard.
But I can say I have not seen any in the pasture for over 5 weeks.

All good steps but the truth is when the weather heats up you will be in the clear.  Honestly right now you are wasting $.  Small chance it will work but it does help.  Our dog has had it since November.  We tried all this.  Gave up.  On meds whole time.  Cleaning etc and still positive.  We have 2 dogs and cats and they r all normal.    Yup.  Wife is vet tech so we on top of all of it.  Very common this year with many pets + in clinic.  Dont forget to bath dogs often.  I think its a losing battle until warms up n kills it off.  They just re infect themselves over n over.  Friends child has it too!!

Ugh. That's no fun!! Yes, the fishzole works the same. Don't take my advice as medical, but can speak from experience.
Every dog is different too. Some dogs are never bothered, where some are very prone to it.
There is a vaccine for it also.
Now that you have the dosage for your dog, I recommend keeping it on hand. Some vets once you've been prescribed are good about giving you another RX, with a phone call, since the labs were recent.
 I also use Purina flora probiotic, one pack with each feeding. I've never experienced the continued contamination, but guess it's possible.
