Fishing near crescent bar
« on: July 06, 2021, 12:39:24 AM »
We’ll be staying at crescent bar next weekend, and I’m hoping to get the kids into some fish. I’ll be bringing gear for catfish , but I can’t find any info on that stretch of river.  We will have a boat , but I’m thinking casting some bait from the bank In the mornings and evening may score us a catfish . I see it’s open for salmon , and have all the gear imaginable but am unfamiliar with the area. Anyone have any advice for fishing this stretch of the Columbia ??

Bow fishing carp in the channel is fun. ;)

I spend a lot of time at Crescent Bar and am amazed at how little fishing gets done in this stretch of river. Samllmouth fishing can be good in the spring but not much is going on in this heat. I have asked quite a few fisherman I have run into over the years about catfish and none are aware of them being in this part of the river. Walleye and sturgeon are here but again few people seem to fish for them. What I don't understand is why no one fishes for salmon when they are being caught further up river. They obviously have to pass through. Pike minnows are here and can be caught trolling. If I was going out this time of year I would troll crank or jerk baits 8-15 ft for starters and see what happens. Ancient Lakes in the Quincy Wildlife Area supposedly have decent fishing but I have never done it. Ramps are primitive so its a small boat fishery. PM me if you want to talk.

I agree that I have not heard of catfish being caught around CB. Ancient lakes aren't far away and a good choice as suggested

Thank you for the replies . I may have to check out ancient lakes , but I was curious if anything was good there close to camp . I may bring a sturgeon/catfish rod just give it a try . It’s strange to me that people don’t at least attempt to fish this stretch ! Maybe crawdad traps to throw out or something

Check the seasons for sturgeon if you do.  I don't think that section is open.

Bass should be popping. Find some structure and throw literally anything at them.

I snuck out after work with the kayak and hit up green resevoir.  Picked up some decent largemouth but intended target was crappie and perch.  In my rush I forgot electronics so had a tough time finding the deep water off the weed lines. Nice lake, I will be back.

I haven't fished alot here in the last ten yrs but I HAVE caught catfish and walleye in the two bays on the west shore at Tekison creek and Brushy creek. Shallow and warmer this time of year.
