Had a decent bear spotted around 5000' north of Lake Wenatchee on Saturday morning. We were in a few miles and with the heat and bugs decided to bail. Would've been tough to get him out on time if he was still there Sunday. Passed the info on to a couple guys at the trailhead going in though.

What temperature do you guys not even bother hunting cause it's too hot? Supposed to be 88 on the Westside the next few days and I usually just don't hunt at that point since I figure the bears won't come out until after dark.

I'll hunt short packout with coolers full of ice in the truck.

The challenge this year is there's no ice anywhere, so need to make our own.

I meant when is it too hot that bears won't even bother coming out of shady creek bottoms until dark.

Follow the wind and hunt them in the bottoms, move slow!

I've nearly tripped over them doing this

Jungle hunting.  Crawling on a bear run on your hands and knees.

Right now when I get up feels like I swallowed a wire brush from the smoke in the neighborhood.
But this will clear up sometime.

Rub a little bacon grease behind my ears for a cover scent and go on a stroll. 😁

Bacon grease bath, left tied up to a tree, doesn't work.

It's been tried.  It's a town classic story, ask around if you haven't yet heard it.

If I remember right.  That was tried during the winter months when the intended quarry was sleeping.

Those are the same people who have not a clue about wolves.  But are in favor of reintroduction.

I've heard a few story's that involved bacon grease ,but didn't involve hunting. But did involve the woods.
I did know an archery deer hunter that swears vanilla scent was the best cover scent.
And when I go to taco bell ,I've always wondered how many bears would come in to that grease barrel if it was in the woods.
I rather piss in the wind, then have piss down my back.

Once the "safe for consumption" part of the TBell grease barrel flows through my guts... I don't think any living thing would go near it :bdid:

This will be my first year going full on for a bear. I am going to hunt and fish near Tonasket. What is the best way to cool your bear down the fastest way. I read about guys hiking miles in. Would one be concerned packing bear meat out

that distance? I am continually being told how quickly it can spoil in the heat.

Hide off fast an get the meat on ice quick . 4 hrs from dead to cooler.in the heat.but get it off the bone as quick as you can pops.
