Ha, nope.  I would get a little drunk every night to put me to sleep faster

Like Jim Shockey says, the sense of accomplishment is in direct proportion to the degree of difficulty.   You are laying the foundation for great success.

As a guy who ate a colockum elk archery tag in 2017 I can totally relate to so many things you’ve said.  It’s humbling but you are right the experience is awesome even if you don’t fill the tag.

You had a great hunt, congratulations and thank you for sharing the experience here.

First off, I truly appreciate the optimistic outlook on your hunt and it goes to show us all that being successful doesn't always mean punching a tag! We as sportsman off get clouded judgment on what success should look like when drawing special permits. When in fact success starts when drawing a special permit and often times means a once in a lifetime opportunity, that most might not ever get to experience. Having the Mt. View rifle permit myself this year, you have inspired me to be humble and hope to find the silver lining in "embracing the suck" in such rugged terrain! Thank you for sharing your experiences!

...

Or would you rather know that I was at full draw 4 times in the last two days…with one miss, and one that thunked into the shoulder/no man’s land, never to be seen again. (He will live)

Bummer, I thought for sure you'd tag out!

Since I won't be flinging arrows at elk this year and now that your hunt is over... will you paint a more detailed picture on your misses and hunt so others (me) might benefit from it?

- what would you do differently (if anything) on your two shots?
- How was the wind?
- Shot distances?
- Did both feel good on release?
- Is there anything from this hunt you plan on incorporating into prep for future hunts?
- Besides not tagging out, any regrets?
- Best single memory of the trip
