WDFW Pheasant Releases
« on: December 25, 2022, 11:38:54 AM »
Is there anyway to stay a little informed on pheasant releases in Central Washington? Facebook groups, etc? I understand it’s kept on the hush when they release but walking pheasant release sites that are void of other upland game everyday is unpractical. Just looking for a bird hunting network near me to stay informed. Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas.

I’m not sure they ever released in the Wenas this year.  None showed up at my house and they usually always do.

They release on the same dates and its a cluster, people shooting them out of trees, right out of the trailer, before the birds can even find cover or disperse

No one will share the dates, because they don't want it to be more of a cluster  :bash:

They need to release less birds, more frequently, and on random days  :bash:

Whomever is running these programs, the decision makers, needs replaced

They fulfill their obligations to release x amount of birds and do it x dates

Right before youth
Right before opener
Right before Thanksgiving

Might be another date I forget  ;)

The release sites are useless to me, I limit out on wounded birds and don't fire a shot

"Bird down" and boom dog brings me a shot up bird someone didn't pick up  :bash:

Don't ever bring a pup or untrained bird dog, they'll catch them super easy

It would be really nice to see improved habitat, and releases of wild stock of both hens and roosters. 3 year halt on hunting the improved habitat and a limited entry system. A guy can dream I guess.

Problem with release birds are they aren’t savy enough to elude predators. If they aren’t killed by hunters the coyotes, birds of prey have a nice tender dinner paid for by wdfw.

Yes, in short order.

Over here on the west side the release sites they release on Tuesday evenings and Friday evenings.  I have to travel to Everett where my rig is likely to get broken into or up to Ferndale which is a Haul. I miss when we had a release site in Skagit County. Didnt play that game this year.
