So at the end it points to wolves, but they didn’t eat the cows, only killed them. Training the young on how to hunt?

Thats my guess, I’ve heard wolves are the the only animal on the planet that “thrill kill”  :dunno:. Others have said they also will kill even when not hungry, they do it to teach others or the young how to hunt and kill, just practicing I guess. My son played ball with a guy back in the day that owns about 9,000 acres in Montana in one of the best mule deer areas in the state, he and his family also have some leases I guess. He sent my son a picture a couple years ago of 17 elk they found in about a mile radius area, all looked to be freshly killed within a couple days but none had been eatin when they came onto them, there were wolf tracks all around each kill.

There is a reason why the ole timers did their level best to rid themselves of wolves!!  Educated idiots have brains of mush to think other wise!!  Sufferers of the Rodney King Syndrome!!

There was an article in Bugle magazine (RMEF) way back that told a story about cougar/cougars killing several deer in a group. They didn't state that it was a trill kill or training in the article.
The only man who never makes a mistake, is the man who never does anything!!
The further one goes into the wilderness, the greater the attraction of its lonely freedom.

Dogs do. Same with house cats, mountain lions, orcas...

In 2008 we fed over a 100 head of deer with our broncs, one night in February a cougar came through and killed 7 yearlings, never ate on any of them.

Timberfaller,
Could you please enlighten me on the Rodney King Syndrome?
I'm not familiar with that.
Thank you in advance.
