Started applying for quality deer special permits when I was 13 years old.  I turned 47 years old today.  Still never been drawn for it.  This is the Washington special permit draw in a nutshell.

My question is what have you applied for all those years? You obviously have not been lucky over those years, but if you only apply for the hardest to draw units each and every year - your odds are horrible to ever draw a tag anyway.

If youve been putting in for a draw that pulls 2 tags a year, 35 points gives you 1225 entries into a pool of hundreds of thousands, still less than 1% success odds. I dont have gohunt to verify so my numbers probably arent accurate, but the point is the same.

So you are saying there's a chance.  :chuckle:

Must be putting in for the ghost point. Every time I submit for the ghost point I get the not selected as well. I’m pretty sure the chance of getting selected for that is actually zero…

June 13th this year. Nice thing about the 19th being a holiday now is the state workers will want to get the draw done so they can take the week off of the 19th.

I am very interested in learning about hunting ghosts.  What GMU do you hunt them?  Can you use bait?  Is there an ID test like goat and bear?  Any good recipes? :chuckle: :chuckle:

I know GoHunt doesn't have the latest info, but what they show for the most popular unit according to # of applications is 2.5% odds for a 28 point holder.

Messing around on there, you can definitely get into double digit odds in some good units with max points for quality muley.

The reality is WA actually has turned the draw around in about 3 weeks for quite a few years now.  I know for awhile it was longer but they have been pretty consistent the last 3-5 years if memory serves me correct.  So I'm guessing between June 12-14.

Isn't it amazing how other states can have their season set by right around the first of the year?

Well all states don't, actually. I don't keep track of other states too much but I know Wyoming doesn't set their seasons until mid April.

And they make nonresidents apply for their tags before the seasons are set. Same with Idaho as you need to buy your tags now on 12/1 to get one but you don’t know what the season will be 50% of the time since they have 2 year season setting. Granted they haven’t changed in years but they could.

My usual reply, June 21, Friday late in the day, so they have the weekend free from all the hate mail about the draw.  :)

WA has been great/consistent on their turn around time.  Honestly can’t ask much more than that for the last few years.  They have their issues on other things but for the draws have been pretty solid.  Just need a repeat from last year.  Love you WDFW!!!

I'm going to say none of the above.  The Commission is going to cancel the draw due to the huntin books not out in time for equitably and inclusion for all........  Why draw when you did not know what to put in for......
