Leupold freedom rds bds cds dial shooting
« on: August 25, 2024, 10:30:44 AM »
Anyone get there cds dial for the Leupold freedom rds and actually test it out to any significant amount of range? 200 yards, 250yards? What type of success did you have? Trying to decide if it’s worth getting a cds with a muzzleloader.

I got the rds without the cds and glad i did. Anything past 200yds and with my gun thats about max, for me. Im about 2” low at 150yd, 18” low at 200. 150yds is my max range. Thats just me tho.

I’ve ran it out to 300 yards and works like any other cds, still have enough elevation to get to 350 but my energy is at my cut off point for an animal at 300.  No complaints with it so far, have about 60 rounds under it now.

Good to hear. What grain bullet and how much powder are you running out of curiosity.

I have it on a lower thread for the scope but 250 grain Barnes and 180 grains of 777 pellets. It is running right at 2300 fps.

Paid 3 bills plus tax for the regular RDS, the 'other' version was another hundred and tuned only for 223. To have the turret tuned for your muzzleloader caliber etc... they wanted another 90 dollars from Leupold and honestly anything more than 200yrds without magnification is...not for me so i couldnt justify the added expense.

Sheeeet it was 3 bills for a 1 power! but the reticle is much easier for eye relief, has the red dot and is easier than iron sites imo.

I haven’t had any issues with mine, dialed it quite a bit this summer and have somewhere north of 75 rounds under it and hasn’t lost zero.  Shot a bull at 40-50 yards on the run this year and don’t know if I would have made the shot with my Williams peep.  Red dot atleast made it easier.  To the other post that the red dot with the CDS is tuned for the 223 is mistaken.  It is just an moa dial which will work for any caliber, if you want a custom turret that may be different, but imo custom turrets are useless.
