I wonder if his eye has anything to do with it.

Could very well be the cause.  Maybe he caught an antler at one time.

great pics as usual.

Don't injuries usually affect the opposite side?

Not sure if that pedicle looks quite correct. Would have to get the hide off!! Lol. I Get a lot more elk in with broken pedicle but a fair amount of deer too. Usually are not real apparent until you can see the skull. Gravity must affect the antlers like it does a tree, as they always attempt to grow up and back to normal.
My theory is they break the pedicle when spikes, then when they lose the antlers and start to grow new, the bone attaches what ever direction it's pointed. The antler growth is the fastest growing bone known. Other possibility is an injury to one of his legs which will affect antler growth.
Really enjoy your Pics. Fantastic reference material.
 Thanks
We give your trophy that final compliment!

Weird little thing about deer.  If the deer is injured anywhere in it's "front", the affected antler will be on the same side.  If it is injured anywhere in the "back", the affected antler will be on the opposite side.
At least that's the way I understand it.
Anyone who knows more about deer biology than I do can jump in here and correct me if I am wrong...

Very cool deer! You'd never know those sheds were a match set unless you knew this deer...
