plus 24 muzzleloader permits :chuckle: there are almost as many landowner tags as there are for the general public

Day 4 complete.  After looking at a bunch of country and a ton of bucks, I may regret passing some of these deer!  Hunted lower today.  Less deer but good bucks.  Had a big heavy horned deer at 100 yards, 175ish.  Two bucks were aleady busted up.  Heading back up to find the cheater buck tomorrow.  I may take him If I can find him?  If someone can post an email addess, I will send a picture and you can post.  Not real clear- pic of pic, but you can get the idea.  Thanks for the support, you guys are pushing me.

I have spent time in there and have seen plenty of bucks over 180.  Most were on private ground but hey.  Keep your mouth shut honey hole?  Unit 45 isn't a secret.  It's the best late Idaho hunt there is.  Some of my friends got huge bucks out of there.  15 years ago it was a bit of a decent draw with a muzzleloader.  Now it's a long shot any year.
Shawn,
I never said 45 was a secret. That wasn't even a secret in the 80's. I said if he had a couple of canyons that had a ton of 170 class bucks running around in it that I would keep my mouth shut and hope to get drawn again soon. A young buck with Unit 45 genetics that scores 170 will be a dandy when he is 5-7 years old. I still have my doubts that any canyon has a ton of 170 class bucks in it in this country but 45 is definitely a great unit to hunt. I have spent time in it myself and saw some dandy bucks but not a lot of 170 bucks running around. Definitely some and a few bigger but not under every bush.

Keep to your guns JJ!  Give 'em hell and remember that hard work pays off and you make you're own luck!  Don't let the Huntwa folks help you tag anything less than what you want....  Best of luck can't wait to see pics you still got a lot of time left!

Yeah, low 170's with 20 plus inches of trash.  Hard to judge when trying to get pics, decide to shoot, etc.

Well, if that was me, that would have been a dead buck.  Good for you.  That takes some cajones to pass up that stud!

JJ, I believe you clank when you walk to pass on that buck!  Congrats to sticking to your plan, though.  Even if you end up with tag soup, at least you know you kept true to your dreams.  Thump a STUD 195" typical! (Then find a cute young thing in a bikini to pose with it for us!).
