how much faster is a drop away vs. a whisker b.
« on: January 02, 2010, 10:39:25 AM »
I am thinking about trying a drop away rest, and was wondering if anyone has actual speed numbers from their same setup switching between the whisker and a drop away.

it depends on you setup bows fps arrow weight and such i gained 9fps with my x force when i switched but true numbers are hard to know untill you set it up and try it.

Someone on here did a test last year and posted that they only lost like 2 fps. I think it was someone that worked on bows and had tested a bunch. I'm sure someone could search & find it. I like my whisker, I'll trade a few fps to alleviate the arrow falling off the rest at a critical time. Mike

i still love my whiskers i still have them on 5 of my 14 bows but my xforce i bought the full containment trophy taker for it and it rules. no clumping fibers in the late snow and rain hunt.

I would say your greatest gain from going to the drop away will be accuracy not the 2-3fps.

I have a drop away and my wife has an octane 3pt biscuit style rest... I like the drop away better in the tree stand, but i wish I   had an octane  rest when i'm stalking through the woods.  :twocents:

When the whisker bisquet was still marketed by Carolina Archery the package use to tell you right on the back to expect a 7 to 10 FPS loss.  Now that Trophy Taker is marketing them they don't give you that info.

Didn't lose that much when I switched but I am shooting FMJ's and they probably have less friction going through the biscuit. I want to say I lost 3fps.

I've compared the two a few times on the chrony and every time it's been from 1 to 3 fps. someday I might get bored and switch to a containment fall away but for now I'll stick with the whisker biscuit.

I personaly don't like the idea of anything touching the arrow during the shot so as such I haven't shot a WB and I can't offer any first hand evidence.

I've heard its 3-5 fps on most setups.  Have also heard horror stories of shoting em in cold weather.  Wiskers get stiff/icy and accuracy speed go to hell.  Watched my buddy's WB have a big chunk break out of it when he took a spill and his bow went flying.

IMHO spend an extra $ and get a all metal fall away.  Not a lot of $ when you're looking at the overall investment in your setup.  Save some money somewhere else.  Plus, the realiability, performance, and piece of mind are more than worth it.   :twocents:
