So, what happened in Concrete?
« on: January 05, 2010, 09:38:49 AM »
I really didn't like the announcement on the Archery hunting that was going on in concrete.  Anybody know what happened....   Also, WDFW admits in its statement

"Elk damage has been, and will continue to be, a problem in this area.  I want to assure those who have expressed concern over this hunt that, in the future, WDFW wildlife managers will seek alternative ways to address elk damage in Skagit Valley."

What are the alternative ways?  This is sounding like hunting will NOT be the recommended solution for problem animals, even though its a documented fact that hunting is an extremely viable option for reducing property damage..

I think all this is showing is that the WDFW master hunter program is not all its cracked up to be.   I would definitely like to see a different method used, since the MHP is really turning into a gotcha game for the state on laws, RCW's etc.

I would like the low-down on what happened, who was at fault, and its going to be prevented in the future.  BTW, closing it to hunting is not what I consider to be a viable option.

The Skagit County incident was not a MH situation.  It was open to general season archery.  See the last item on Page 37 of the reg book for Elk Area 4941.

There are a few other discussions on this topic already.

Here's one:
