Recommendations on a good trail camera!
« on: July 27, 2010, 07:36:14 PM »
Looking for the best bang for the buck on trail cameras.  Has anyone tried a few out and found a hands down favorite?  I have some good areas to place them, so I am going to jump on the boat as I see everyone elses great pics.

my 1st was a cudeback IR   easy to set up, good trigger  $200 + -     (ripped off)  >:(

now I have two bushnells  more features, around $200- not the quality of pics I was expecting ?

I have seen some homebrew pics on this site that are very good.

I have two of these Bushnells and hope to get them out this weekend. I bought security boxes at Cabela's for $35.

I agree with the bushnell, awesome camera!  I just put out a Moultrie D40 for the first time over a wallow and am hoping for some good results.  The Moultrie is around $100.  All the research I did said it is an Excellent camera and if you do not care if it is a flash or IR camera then it might be the way to go.

read lots of good reviews about the Bushnell Trophy cam.

I'd also recommend the new Primos Truthcam 46. I have a 35, it has a problem with the IR in heavy timber/brush areas, causes a lot of white out photos. From what I've read the 46 doesnt have this issue.

I don't think anything beats the Reconyx cams, but thats also why they're $400. or more.

One other great thing about the Bushnel cams. They use AA batteries and last a long time. You can use from 4 - 8 batteries depending on how long you plan on leaving it out.

I almost went broke putting batteries in my 2, D-40 cams. The money I'm saving in batteries alone is worth the extra $$ for the cam.

I have probably 100 pics and a few videos on my cam in about 1 month. It's loaded with 4 AA batteries and they are not showing low yet. And the pics are way better.

Something to think about.
