Coolest hunting area in Washington
« on: April 13, 2011, 11:54:41 AM »
Just curious what experiences everyone has had in different hunting areas in Washington as far as scenery, terrain, abundance of different wildlife etc.  Not looking for specific honey holes or anything just curious as far as cool areas go.

I hunted the cowiche area a couple years ago.  When we drove ontop of the ridge where we got our wood I had a perfect panoramic view of the cascades.  On the way back I followed a fox running down the middle of the road and a couple days later we ran into a cougar on our hunt.  Really cool area there and cool hikeable timber and terrain.  Saw a few elk but nothing we could shoot.  My hunting party hated it there but I don't necessarily get why.  Lewis River had its charms but didn't see as much critters or terrain as cowiche.

That looked like where I was at last year.  Lots of snow and fog!  It was fun being out in the woods in the thick fog when its eerily quiet.

The Pasayten is really amazing.
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am.

I can remember a couple times back in the 90's when sub zero temps were the norm for the end of November NE WT rifle hunts.   :chuckle:

Cool!  Ive seen deer and elk on the west side but never turkey.  Ive only got two years under my belt but Ive already seen enough to blow my mind.  Cant wait till next year and to check out new terrain!

Westside without a doubt, i dont know why people flock to the eastside.
There are more huntable animals per square mile of public land open to hunting on the westside than the eastside.
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

Anywhere above treeline, the Pasayten, Skiline Divide and my honey holes.  I have never hunted the first two  areas but rode horse and hiked into them, they had the most beautiful views.  It's the most beautiful country.

Anywhere above treeline

:yeah: Love the alpine at or near the treeline. Don't really see a hoards of animals but the high altitude wilderness areas are my favorite.
