There is only 1 run of steelhead on the Grand Ronde they are a summer run steelhead but they move into the river from September through march.

Where as the Clearwater river (Which is close) has many runs.

The Clearwater has 1 run of steelhead but they break it in to 2 sub runs an A run and B run. The A run are typically smaller fish in the 5 to 8 pound class and they spend 1 year out in the ocean the B run are the larger fish and they spend two years out in the ocean. The smaller fish show up a bit earlier as well but there are still some bigger fish mixed in!

The three runs I am referring to are (1) early returns to a tributary in Oregon, mostly wild fish. (2) Oregon hatchery fish which run now ish? And (3) the Washington hatchery fish.    All these runs are A run fish and all run Sept- April, I just don't know specific timings.

They all hit the Ronde in Sept and slowly make there way up in the fall till temps drop and they hold...then the next spike in water levels they move up and so on thru April. There is no specific runs and timing on the river. I can tell you to not fish above cottonwood hatchery by the second weekend in March because almost all the OR fish have moved up into there spawning areas and leaves very few fish in WA waters..fish below cottonwood and there will be lots of fish.

Hmmm, different size fish, one showing up earlier.  Sounds like two distinct runs to me

They are Summer Run Steelhead sub classified into 2 runs an A run and B run based on size. They spawn at the same time as well. If they were two distinct runs than they would have different spawning times. The steelhead in the Clearwater have the same spawning time as well.

PNW is correct that the fish are in different parts of the river at different times.  The oregon fish pass by prior to the Wa fish arriving.  I think the question is when does that occur in the various parts of the river.
